Shipman & and Wright was pleased to be a Corporate Sponsor at the Power Breakfast on Thursday hosted by the Greater Wilmington Business Journal at the Wilmington Convention Center.
This year’s first Power Breakfast of 2020 was held at the Wilmington Convention Center and was attended by several hundred of Wilmington’s business community. The topic of the discussion was entrepreneurship and how to attract more entrepreneurs, companies, and talent to our region.
Speaking at the event was Chip Mahan of Live Oak Bank, Brett Martin of CastleBranch and Dr. Yousry Sayed of Quality Chemical Laboratories.
The panel agreed that the greater Wilmington business community needs to have a better-coordinated approach to attract people and companies to the area. Brett Martin noted that the area doesn’t have an issue with retaining people, but he said we’ve benefited from this “accidental entrepreneurship.”
“We don’t have a retention problem. We do have an attraction problem…we have an attraction problem because entrepreneurs and business are attracted to specific ingredients, and we have to make sure that the specific ingredients are present in Wilmington to attract more people.”
