Two unpleasant things are certain in life, but Greg Katzman can take some sting out of one of them: taxes.

Greg has been Of Counsel with the firm starting in 2019. Greg uses his advanced degree in tax law to provide operational and structural advice to business clients.  He also helps individuals who have crossed state and federal tax authorities.

Greg’s focus on American business and tax laws comes after sampling a variety of legal and cultural environments.  A native of Plano, Texas, Greg attended the University of Missouri at Columbia, including a semester abroad at the University of Western Syndney in Australia.  Greg graduated with a double major in journalism and political science in only three years.

While in law school at the University of Missouri at Kansas City, Greg studied abroad at St. Edmunds College at Oxford University and Peking University in Beijing, China.  Greg also served as a class representative on the Student Bar Association for two years.  After obtaining his law degree in 2007, Greg went on to obtain a Master of Laws (or LL.M.) degree in Taxation.

Greg started his law career at a trust company in Las Vegas, Nevada, that specialized in self-directing Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs).  Greg was admitted to the North Carolina bar and joined Shipman and Wright in 2011.  He practices in the areas of taxation, business organization and management, estate planning, elder law and probate.

Greg is married and has two young sons.
