The lack of reader response to this article shows how much 'we' care. Here in Utah, 'RideShare', our state's socialist transit agency - aka Utah Transit Authority - has 600 of them, and even though one overturned recently, killing 9 adults, http://www.deseretnews.com/article/615153358/Van-rollover-kills-9-hurts-2-from-USU.html
outright refuses to equip them with the $300 dual rear wheel mod.
Go figure. But thanks for your effort.

I would like to know why they are still selling the 597 hrm and the ammunition.
I was going to buy one but saw the safety warning from Remington on the web.
These are still available from several gun outlets brand new for about $600.

I purchased a 597 for a little over $300.

I will not return the rifle that Remington sold as a defective design. They should give you the same credit you paid for the weapon at a minimum...

I am still in possession of my HMR 17 and refuse to take less than half of what I paid for it as compensation. I wanted a 17 caliber and should either be offered the same rifle IMPROVED with all of the problems fixed or my money back to purchase from another company other than Remington. Its a win/win situation for Remington but leaves the consumer without a choice as to what product to purchase! They get to keep half of your money and you are required to purchase another Remington product and quite possibly have to add your hard earned cash to their voucher to get something else. Please let me know what will be done, if anything regarding this issue ASAP. Thanks!!

I've owned and used a model 597 17HMR with laminated stock for several year now. I also have at least 15 unopened boxes of Hornady brand ammo for it. I also purchased a new Leupold scope and several clips specifically for this rifle.

$250 towards the purchase of another Remington product or a re-barrel to .22 mag is an insult to the intelligence of any customer. $250 does not even come close to my investment of $700+ for this firearm

OK ... I can sell the ammo to a friend who has a bolt action .17HMR. Considering the price increase in ammo, I should be able to break even on that sale.

And ... I can probably eventually use the scope on some other rifle.

But ... that still leaves the $400+ I originally paid for the new Rem 597. I really like this rifle. It is my favorite. I don't want to sell it. I don't want to trade it. I certainly don't
want another .22 Mag.

Considering Remington's obvious lack of proper research and development in the area of safety with this rifle, I would think that Remington would, at the very least, be willing to reimburse owners of this rifle with a cash figure somewhat closer to the average paid retail purchase price.

A paltry $250 voucher for another Remington product is nothing more than an insult.

Perhaps the only way to wake up Remington on this matter it to sue the bastards !!!
If that's what it takes, I'm all for it.
